ShaolinTempleisafamousBuddhisttempleinChina.ItisthebirthplaceofShaolinKungFu.ItislocatedatthefootofwurupeakofSongshanMountain,12kilometerswestofDengfengCity.ItisoneofthemaincorescenicspotsofSongshanMountainscenicspot.ShaolinTemplewasbuiltinthe19thyearofTaiheintheNorthernWeiDynasty(495AD).ItwasbuiltbyEmperorXiaowentosettletheIndianmonkBatuo.Itwasnamed"ShaolinTemple"becauseitwasbuiltinthedenseforestofShaoshiinSongshanmountain.InthethirdyearofXiaochang(527AD),Bodhidharma,aneminentIndianmonk,cametoShaolinandlivedinanaturalcaveinwurufengofShaoshimountainfornineyears.Sofar,Shaolinisknownasthe"Zenancestralcourt".
IntheearlyTangDynasty,thethirteenstickmonks,suchasZhijianandtanzongofShaolinTemple,madecontributionstotheHanhorsewarinthebattleofLiShimin,thekingofQin,againstWangShichong,andwerepraisedandrewardedbytherulersofLiandTangDynasties.Duringthisperiod,thankstothestrongsupportoftheimperialcourt,ShaolinTempledevelopedveryfastandwonthereputationof"themostfamoustempleintheworld",andShaolinKungFubecamefamousfromthenon.TheMingDynastyreacheditspeak.DuringtheperiodoftheRepublicofChina,thewarlordShiYousansetfiretomostofthebuildingsofShaolinTemple,andtheMillenniumfoundationwasdestroyed.AfterthefoundingofnewChina,withtheconcernandsupportofthepartyandthestate,ShaolinTemplehasbeenrevived.Inparticular,a1982film"ShaolinTemple"hasmadeShaolinTempleandShaolinKungFupopularallovertheworldandbecomeatoptouristproductinHenanandeventheworld.Sinceitsestablishment,ShaolinTemplehasbeenfamousforitsZen,martialartsandmedicine.Ithasaccumulatedrichhistoricalandculturalconnotations.Ithasbeenratedas"thetoptentouristattractionsinZhengzhouCity"andthefirstbatchof"4Ascenicspots"inChina.Itreceivesmorethan1.5milliontouristsannually.ItisarealtouristpearlinCentralChinaandatouristattractioninChina.
