Oneyearlater,hebecameagraduatestudentandjoinedmylaboratorywhileIhadtheGeneticEngineeringcourseofhim.Hiscuriosityandinsatiabilityprovidedhimwithenthusiasmtobroadenhisknowledgeinmolecularbiology.Attheendofthesemester,hegotagoodscorerankingwithintop5%oftheclass.Afterfinishinghiscoursesin2009,hewentontheresearchprojecttoisolatehypercholesterolemia-associatedgenes.Whilemanagingtheproject,heshowedmewithhisexcellentexperimentabilityandindependentthinkingaptitude.Whatimpressedmemostwashispersistenceandoptimism.Inthepresenceofpressure,hewasratherenjoyingtheprocessoftheresearchinsteadofbeinguncomfortablewithfearandavoidance.
OnethingImustemphasizeisthatDr.xxhasmadelotsofprogressfromajuniorstudenttoanexperiencedresearcherbydintofhardwork.Asaresult,hiseffortisrewardedbyapaperpublishedinxxxwhichhasbeenthemostexcellentonecompletedbygraduatestudentinourcollegesofar.Thathaswonhimrecognitionfromnotjustmebutmycolleaguesaswell.
