NowwecometothebodypalaceofJiuhuaMountain.WhenwetalkaboutthebodypalaceofJiuhuaMountain,wehavetomentiononeperson.HisnameisJinqiaojue.Heisaforeigner.HecomesfromancientSilla,whichisthesoutheastoftheKoreanPeninsulatoday.Accordingtohistoricalrecords,JinqiaojuewasaprinceofSilla.Attheageof24,hecuthishairtobecomeamonkandsailedfromSillatoChina.HetraveledalloverthefamousmountainsandriversinChina,andfinallysettleddowninJiuhuaMountaintopractice.AndinaccordancewiththevowofBodhisattvadizang:"hellisnotempty,vownottobecomeaBuddha.".DuringhispracticeinJiuhuaMountain,Jinqiaojuesubduedthebeastsandcollectedherbs.Whilehewastreatingthepeopleonthemountain,hepreachedsutrasandwidelypracticedBuddhism,whichwasdeeplylovedbythepeople.Jinqiaojuegraduallybecamefamousandreceivedmanydisciples.EvenlocalofficialswentuptothemountaintolistentoBuddhismandrecitehisdeedstotheimperialcourt.Asaresult,moreandmorepeoplefollowJinqiaojue.Becauseofthehighmountains,denseforestsandlittleland,themonkscouldnotsupportthemselveswithfood,sotheyhadtoeatguanyintu.Becauseoflong-termmalnutrition,peopleatthattimecalledJinqiaojue"haggardmonk"andhisdisciples"haggardpeople".However,themoredifficultitwas,themorefirmJinqiaojue'sfaithwasandthemorerespectedhewas.EventhemonksofSillacametofollowhimoneafteranother.Afterninety-nineyearsoldaslikeastwopeas,JinQiaojuedied,andthebodyhadnotrottedforthreeyears.Hisfacewasjustlikebeforehisdeath.ThesesupernaturalphenomenaaresimilartothoseoftheTibetankingBodhisattvarecordedintheBuddhistscriptures.Ithappenedthatjinqiaojuewasnamedjindizang,soBuddhismconfirmedhimasthereincarnationoftheBodhisattvakingofdizang.Peoplebuiltpagodasandtombstoworshiphim.Sincethen,JiuhuaMountainhasbecomeawell-knownTaoistCenterforthekingofTibetans.
NowI'dliketoexplaintoyouthemeaningofthe"body"offeredbythe"bodyPalace".Fleshbody,originallymeanttobethefleshandbloodofparents.Theso-called"body"ofBuddhismreferstothebodyoftheeminentmonkafterhisdeath.Althoughhisbodyhasgonethroughalongperiodoftime,ithasnotbeenrottenandfestering,andadherestoitsoriginalshapeandislifelike.Onlymonksandnunswhohavereachedaveryhighlevelofpracticecanformthebody.Thebodyisdifferentfromthe"Mummy"inEgypt.InancientEgypt,thefuneralceremonywasverysimple,justdiggingashallowpitinthedeserttobury.Duetothedrydesertclimate,thebodyquicklydehydratedwhenitcameintocontactwithhotsand,andthebacteriawerekilled,formingamummybynaturalaction.Afterthemummyisinthehumandeath,theviscera,brainandothertissueswillberemoved,andthenthebodywithdrugtreatmentandpreservation.MummieshavealsobeenunearthedinXinjiang,China.JiuhuaMountainislocatedontheSouthBankoftheYangtzeRiver.Itishumidalltheyearround,andtheclimateishumid.Thereisnonaturalconditiontoproducemummies,andthebodyhasnotbeentreatedwithanymedicine.Sofar,thispeculiarphysicalphenomenonhasnotbeenscientificallyexplained.
Therearemanypreciousculturalrelicsinthebodyhallanditsculturalrelicsexhibitionroom.Someofthemaregiftsfortheroyalfamily.ItisveryrareandcanbecalledatreasurehouseofBuddhistculturalrelics.Everyyear,onthebirthdayofthekingofTibetansonJuly30ofthelunarcalendar,itisatraditionaltemplefairinJiuhuaMountain.Monks,nunsandpilgrimsfromalloverthecountryholdBuddhistactivitiesthereandgatheraroundthebodypagodatowatchthenightforthekingofTibetans.Nearbyurbanandruralresidentsalsogotothemountainforfolkculturalentertainmentactivities.Thousandsoftouristsandpilgrims,chantingBuddha'snamedayandnight,surroundedbycigarettesanddrumming,presentagrandceremony.
