JingzhouAncientCity,locatedinJingzhouCity,HubeiProvince,isahistoricsite.Ithasfouroldcitygatesinthesoutheastandnorthwestandanewsouthgate.ThereareXuanmiaotemple,Guanditempleandtienutempleinthecity.TheancientcityofJingzhouwasbuiltinthespringandAutumnperiodandtheWarringStatesperiod.ItusedtobetheofficialshipwharfandtheZhupalaceofthestateofChu.Later,itbecametheadministrativeofficeofJianglingCounty,andtheoriginalcityoutlineappeared.AsoneofthebirthplacesofChuculture,alargenumberofpreciousculturalrelicshavebeenunearthedaroundtheancientcityofJingzhou.AmongthenationaltreasuresaretheancientcorpsesoftheWesternHanDynasty,thesilkoftheWarringStatesperiod,andtheswordofKingGoujianofYue.TheancientcityofJingzhouhasalonghistory.ItisnotonlypraisedbyLiuYuxi,LiBai,ZhangJiulingandothers,butalsorememberedbyJingjiangMaya,XueliCangfengandYugao.
JingzhouislocatedinthecentralandsouthernpartofHubeiProvince.Peopleoftensaythatthecommonsaying"carelesslostJingzhou"comesfromhere.JingzhouisoneofthefirstbatchofnationalfamoushistoricalandculturalcitiesannouncedbytheStateCouncil.Ithasmanyplacesofinterest,amongwhichthemostfamousistheancientcityofJingzhou.Ithasfouroldcitygatesinsoutheast,northwestandanewsouthgate.ThereareXuanmiaotemple,Guanditempleandtienvtempleinthecity.InJingzhou,manyhistoricsitesarerelatedtothestoryoftheThreeKingdoms.Ji'nanCity,5kilometerstothenorthofthecity,isthecapitalofChuinthespringandAutumnperiodandWarringStatesperiod,andiswellpreserved.Jingzhouislocatedat111°150-114°050Eand29°260-31°370n.LocatedinthecentralandsouthernpartofHubeiProvince,thehinterlandofJianghanPlain,theYangtzeRivertraversesthecityfromwesttoEast,withatotallengthof483km.JingzhouisadjacenttoWuhanintheEast,Yichanginthewest,ChangdeinHunaninthesouth,JingmenandXiangfaninthenorth.Thetotalareais14100squarekilometers,78.7%ofwhichisplainLakeareaand21.1%ishillyandlowmountainarea.ThecitygovernsJingzhouandShashidistrictsandJiangling,GonganandJianlicounties,andmanagesSongzi,ShishouandHonghu.Ithas119townships,18subdistrictoffices,3398Village(neighborhood)committeesand24835villagergroups.
JingzhouMunicipalgovernmentattachesgreatimportancetotheculturalrelicsprotectionandenvironmentalimprovementofJingzhoucitywall,andhasraisedatotalof130millionyuanforthedemolitionofabout300000squaremetersofillegalbuildingswithintheprotectionscopeofJingzhoucitywall,theconstructionofinnerandouterringroads,thedrainageofmoats,sewagetreatmentandtheimprovementofsurroundingenvironment.Since2004,wehavebeenworkingonthedeclarationofworldculturalheritage.In2005,Hubeiprovincialgovernmentofficiallysubmittedthe"preliminarylistofworldculturalheritage"totheStateAdministrationofculturalrelics.InJanuary2007,theStateAdministrationofculturalrelicsagreedtoincludetheJingzhoucitywallandthefourMingandQingcitywallsofXi'an,NanjingandXingchenginthe"Chinaworldculturalheritagepreliminarylist".
