DongshanAcademyofXiangxiangCitywasfoundedin1895(the21styearofGuangxu),whichhasbeenfor100years.Here,withalonghistory,MaoZedong,TanZheng,ChenGengandothertalentscomeforthinlargenumbers,withagloriousrevolutionarytradition.
Themainhalloftheacademyhasthreerooms,fiveroomsintheEastandfiveroomsintheWest.Thewholebuildingisgrandinscale,magnificentinbuildingsandelegantinenvironment."Thereisahallforspeakers,aplaceforrecreation,aroomforfood,andanetfornothing.It'sreallyagoodplacetostudy.Thegateoftheacademyisawhitemarblewiththefourcharacters"Dongshanacademy"writtenbyHuangZiyuan,acalligrapherofthecurrentDynasty.OnthewalloftheleftcorridorofthemainhallisarecordofDongshanacademywrittenbyChenWucui,acountymagistrate.
AfterthecompletionoftheAcademy,classesbeganonNovember15ofthatyear.DongshanjingshewasrenamedDongshanAcademy.InJuly1905,LigentlemenWangGang,YangBingqianandPengmengriinitiatedthetransformationofDongshanacademyintoapublicDongshanprimaryschoolinXiangxiangcounty.InJanuary1905,theybegantorecruitstudentsforthreeyears(twoyearsafter1921).Fromthenonto1940,therewere45classeswithmorethan2000graduates.Inthebeginning,itwaschangedfromtheeighthclasstothedigitalclass.
Dongshanprimaryschoolhasaschoolmottoandaschoolsong.Theschoolmottosays:"honesty,diligenceandThrift",andtheblackgoldplaqueishunginthemainhall.Onbothsidesofthecolumn,thereisacouplet:"whenthepublicisfinished,theywillgovernprivately,andwhentheteacherisstrict,theywillrespecttheway.".Thecurriculumsetting,teachingmanagementandteachingmethodsofprimaryschoolsarecarriedoutinaccordancewiththeprinciplesandrequirementsofmodernschools.Atthattime,thecoursesincludedself-cultivation,Chinese,history,geography,mathematics,physics,chemistry,English,sports,pictures,music,etc.Theteachingmethodemphasizesthecombinationofleadingandsubject,teachingandlearning,theoryandpractice,soastomakeitlively.
Dongshanhighschoolhasanexcellentteachingteamandagroupofteacherswithprogressiveideasanduniqueinsight,suchasLiYuanfu,GongYipeng,XiaoYueyingandShenChunlong.GongYipengisstrictinschoolmanagementanddiligentinteaching.Duringhistenureastheheadoftheschool,hisstudentsachievedexcellentresults,andhewasawardedbytheSecretaryofHunanProvince.LiYuanfuwasenthusiasticaboutthecauseofeducation,activelyadvocatednewlearning,andhadagoodeyeforpearl.WhenMaoZedongcametotheschooltoapplyfortheexamination,afterreadinghisexaminationcompositionentitled"YanZhi",Liimmediatelypraisedhimhighly,thoughtthathewas"amaterialtosavethecountry",andacceptedhimoutoftheordinary.Later,hesupportedhimtoapplyforthesecondaryschoolinChangsha.XiaoYueyingwaspoorallherlife,indifferenttofameandwealth,andlovededucation.HeandhissonsXiaoSanandXiaoZishenggaveMaoZedonggreatsupportandhelp.Inordertocarryforwardhisinterestineducation,hisdescendantsdonatedhislittlelegacytoDongshanschoolandsetupthe"XiaoYueyingscholarship".ShenChunnongparticipatedinthedemocraticrevolutioninhisearlyyears,joinedthepartyin1925,joinedthepeasantmovementduringthegreatrevolution,andfinallydiedgenerously.Inaddition,therearemanywell-knownandunknownprogressiveteachers.Forexample,in1930,martyrYangZailinwaskilledbyKuomintangreactionariesontheBankofLianshuiRiver.Thenextday,ateacherofDongshanprimaryschoolwroteapoemandangrilydenouncedthatthestormofLongchengwascoldinLianshui,andthebloodofthestrongmenspilledonthebeach.Hebecameaheroineighteen,andlookedatthegreenmountainsontheZhenxiangstage."
