InJuneofthethirdyearofDadereignofYuanDynasty(1299A.D.),Yishan,theabbotofGuanyinTempleofBaotuo,wasgrantedthetitleofmastermiaozhongji.HetookthenationaldocumentstoJapantopromoteBuddhismandmakefriendswithJapan.Fromthenon,MountPutuobecamemoreandmorefamous.EmperorKangxioftheQingDynastygranted"Pujiqunling"tothefronttempleand"tianiaoFayu"tothebacktemple,fromwhich"PujiTemple"and"FayuTemple"came.TheperiodfromtheendofQingDynastytotheeveoftheAntiJapanesewarwastheheydayofBuddhisminPutuoMountain.Everyyear,onthe19thbirthdayofGuanyininFebruary,the19thofJune,andthe19thofSeptember,thebelieversgatherintheBuddhistkingdom.MountPutuoisfullofsmokeandcandlefire.It'samazingtochantBuddhistscripturesallnightlong.EverytimetheBuddhistsprayforworship,thecelestialphenomenashowtheirauspiciousness,whichaddstothemagical,sacredandmysteriouscolorofMountPutuo.ThethousandsofyearsofBuddhistactivitieshaveaccumulatedprofoundBuddhistcultureinPutuoMountain.ThegreatmasterofGuanyinisconnectedwithallovertheworld,"everyoneAmitabha,everyfamilyGuanyin".ThebeliefofGuanyinhasbeencalled"thebeliefofhalfAsia"byscholars."
Surroundedbythesea,PutuoMountainhasbeautifulscenery.AstheonlyBuddhistresortontheseaamongthefourfamousBuddhistmountains,itisknownas"thefirstpureplaceonearth".Inadditiontothepagodas,cliffs,rocksandtreesfullofthemysteriouscoloroftheBuddhaKingdom,theislandisrichintrees,birdsandflowers.Therearenotonlyancientcamphortreesnearlyonethousandyearsold,butalsotheuniqueCarpinuspubescensinChina.Theislandissurroundedbywhitewaves,fishingsails,silverwavesandsands,surroundedbygreenpeaksandquietancienttemples.
