ShahuislocatedatthefootofHelanMountainandthegoldenbankoftheYellowRiver,38kilometersawayfromYinchuan,thecapitalofNingxiaHuiAutonomousRegion.Thetotalareaofthescenicspotis80.10squarekilometers,withmorethan20squarekilometersofdesertandmorethan40squarekilometersofwaterareaadjacenttoeachother.IthasboththemajesticdesertandGobiandthebeautifulwatertowninthesouthoftheYangtzeRiver.Itisknownasa"rareculturaltouristresortintheworld".
ShahutouristareausedtobeadishshapeddepressioninXidatanofYinchuanplain.Itwasrecordedasearlyas420__A.D.In1952,5804officersandmenofthefirstagriculturalconstructiondivisionoftheChinesepeople'sLiberationArmycametoXidatan.Theywereblueskyabovetheirheads,down-to-earthandhard-working.Theyopenedupwastelandandcultivatedland,builtwaterconservancyprojects,builthousesandplantedtreesonthissalineandalkalinelandof"whiteinwinter,wateryinsummer,rocksinthewind,andnograssintheland",Itisoneoftheearlieststatefarms,andhasaprofoundcultureofmilitaryreclamation.Nowmorethan80%oftheemployeesworkinginShahuscenicareaaredescendantsoftheoldmilitaryreclamation.Theyinheritandcarryforwardthespiritofagriculturalreclamation,andstrivetobuildtheirhometownmorebeautifulandrich!
