LocatedatthefourthsectionofRen'aiRoad,XinyiDistrict,TaipeiCity,theNationalFathermemorialhallwasbuilttocommemoratetheCentennialbirthdayofDr.SunYatSen.itwascompletedin1972.ItistheworkofWangDahong,afamousarchitectinTaiwan.WangDahongwasoneofthemostimportantarchitectsinTaiwaninthe20thcentury.HisfatherwastheforeignministeroftheNationalistGovernmentinmainlandChina.Inhisearlyyears,WangDahongreceivedsecondaryeducationinSwitzerland,andthenwenttoCambridgeUniversitytostudyarchitecture.In1941,heenteredHarvardUniversity,wherehewastaughtbythemasterofmodernarchitecture,waiterGropius,andstudiedwiththefamousChineseAmericanarchitect,BeiLuming.DuringthecivilwarbetweentheKuomintangandtheCommunistParty,WangDahongandhisfamilycametoTaiwanandbeganhiscareerasanarchitect.
TheNationalFathermemorialhallisoneofhisexcellentworksinTaiwan.TheplaneoftheNationalFathermemorialhallisa100metersquarewithaheightof30.4meters.Theplaneisdividedintotwoparts:theformeristhememorialhallofZhongshanstatue,andthelatteristheperformancehall.Theeavesattheentranceofthefacadeturnup.Accordingtotheinvestigation,thispeculiarroofshapecanbetracedbacktotheTangandSongdynasties.Whilelearningfromthetraditionalarchitecture,WangDahongalsogivesdifferentnewideas:heoutlinestheridgewithsimpleandpowerfullinesandskillfullyformstheroofintoathree-dimensionalcurvedsurface.Fromthemodelingpointofview,thewholebuildingisnearlyperfect.Hereplacedtheblocksurfacewithlines,andpaidattentiontotheaestheticfeelingoflinesofcolumns,doorsandwindows,eaves.Thecolorsaresimpleanddurable,withalightandquiettemperament.Thewholebuildingexudesakindoforientalclassicalimplicitbeauty.
LocatedbetweenZhongxiaoEastRoad,Ren'aiRoad,GuangfuSouthRoadandYixianRoad,theTaipeiNationalFathermemorialhallwasbuilttocommemoratethecentenarybirthdayofDr.SunYatSen.thememorialhallwasbuiltin53(1964)oftheRepublicofChinaandwascompletedinMay61oftheRepublicofChinaThenameoftheinstitutionischangedfromtheadministrativeofficeoftheNationalFathermemorialtotheNationalFatherMemorial.Themuseumis30.4metershigh,100meterslongoneachside,with14largegraycolumnsoneachside.TheYellowroofisraisedandtilted,liketheshapeofthewingsofaROC.Thetotalareaofthemuseumis35000squaremeters.ItisamajesticbuildingimitatingtheChinesepalacestyle.
Taipei'sfatherofthenationmemorialhallhasacityhallwithatotalareaof2844squaremeters,whichcanaccommodatemorethan2500people.Itisthelargestnationalperformancevenueontheisland.Thelightingandequipmentoftheperformancehallarefirst-class.Itisaperformancevenueforimportantculturalactivities.Thelecturehalloftenhasacademicandlifelectures;ZhongshanNationalGallery,aNationalGallery,ofteninviteswell-knownartistsfromhomeandabroadtoexhibithere.Thespacious,brightandmagnificenthistoricalsitesofthefatherofthenationaredisplayedintheeastroomandthewestroom.TheeastroomisanexhibitionroomwiththethemeofDr.SunYatSenandtheRepublicofChina.ThewestroomisanexhibitionroomwiththethemeofDr.SunYatSenandTaiwan,andintroducesthehistoryofTaiwan.
